The school was saddened to learn of the passing of Cathy Jacquet (née Hull, OH '70). The photo shows Cathy, in grey jumper, with Habs Girls' School friends. The following obituary was provided by one of those friends, Lorraine Linton (née Clark, OH '70).
Cathy joined Haberdashers’ School in Acton in the second form and left after A levels in 1970, having been a senior prefect in the sixth form. She studied Modern Languages at university before going to teach in Paris, and it was there that she met Maxime, a computer engineer, whom she married in 1977. His job took them to the USA for 18 months and it was there that their first daughter, Chloë, was born in 1980.
On returning to France they settled to the west of Paris, not far from Versailles, and there a second daughter, Florence, was born in 1983. After teaching for a couple of years Cathy worked as office administrator in Paris for many years, but also continued to ride and passed on her interest in all things equine to her daughters, who both went on to own horses and compete in show jumping and Pony Games for many years
After retirement Cathy loved to spend time with her daughters and her grandson, Oscar, and remained active in her local community, learning Italian, singing in a choir and participating in voluntary activities, including translating and accounting for an association providing audio books to the blind.
Cathy had wide interests and enjoyed travel, walking, visiting art galleries and going to concerts. When the Covid pandemic arrived, she volunteered actively at the vaccination centre in Saint Germain-en-Laye until her illness stopped her.
In September 2021 she first noticed the symptoms that were subsequently diagnosed as motor neurone disease. She faced the illness with great courage, but her condition deteriorated rapidly. She died just one year later, on 20 September 2022. She will be greatly missed by her family and the Haberdashers with whom she kept in close touch for over 50 years and who so valued her friendship.
With apologies for the delay in posting this video which was premiered at the Acton Memories & Memorabilia event on 19th May 2024. Enjoy! More...
