Habs Girls' Staff Leavers

We bid a fond farewell to all staff who are leaving Habs, including Mrs Rose Hardy as she leaves to take up a Headship at The John Lyon School. Not all staff go on to teaching posts of course.

Emily Tesh, better known at Habs as Mrs Bowyer, has taught Classics at the Girls' School since 2014. Not many of her students knew she had a secret identity as an author of speculative fiction. Her first novella, the World Fantasy Award-winning Silver in the Wood, was released in 2019, and the follow-up Drowned Country scooped her the Astounding Award for Best New Writer at the 2021 Hugo Awards. The Sunday Times bestseller Some Desperate Glory is her first full-length science fiction novel. It follows a young girl on a mission to avenge the destruction of the Earth - and though it is set in the future, Habs-educated Classicists will certainly spot the many Roman and Ancient Greek influences. We wish Emily the best of luck as she leaves her teaching days behind in order to focus on her writing career.

We wish all Habs staff the best of luck in their next adventure. Former staff remain a part of the Habs community and we look forward to welcoming them to reunions and special events.
