Planet B is no option.

The Middle School Essay Prize was hugely successful last year with over 90 entries from the three year groups involved - Years 7, 8 and 9. The theme was sustainability and students tackled titles such as Should SUVs be banned? and Can individual action make a difference to effective, sustainable behaviours?

We managed to continue this project through the lockdown period and finished the year on a high by announcing our winners in enrichment week on the sustainability focus day. On this day we were hugely fortunate to have sessions led by Susan Warren a passionate activist and Sophie Thomas and Dan Epstein from useful projects. We have definitely started to inspire the future generation with one of our winners meeting with the headmistress to discuss how we make our school more sustainable. There is also an allotment heading our way soon.

The Middle School Essay Prize 2021 will be launched in January and we are excited to be continuing exploring our theme of sustainability and a cyclic approach to resources. We are looking to our wider community for a contribution of titles or an interest in being part of our judging panel in March 2021. This is your chance to inspire thought-provoking discussion and development of ideas outside the curriculum in the next generation of students.

If you have any ideas for a title or just are interested in finding out more please email kbridge@habsgirls.org.uk.
